As in all YMCA programs, the goal of the National YMCA aquatic program is to develop the whole person, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Teaching methods are designed to help each participant develop his/her fullest potential, encourage awareness of safety, and master skills to the best of their ability. YMCA aquatic programs, offered at the YMCA of Hannibal are not only beneficial in developing a healthy lifestyle, but are also an excellent place for youth and adults alike to make new friends and, most importantly – to have fun!

Private lessons are best for those who prefer individual one-on-one instruction, and give each student the opportunity to swim at their own pace. These are offered to any age swimmer—youth or adult. Times are based on the availability of the individual, instructor, and pool time. The YMCA will contact you if there are any cancellations of classes.

Private single swim lessons with one student and one instructor include 6 lessons.

Price: Member $154; Non-member $184

These are offered for ages 6 months to 10 years. Times are based on age and skill level. Prices are $59 for YMCA members and $89 for non-members. Payment is due at the time of registration. Registration deadline is by the Saturday before the session is scheduled to start. A minimum of 3 individuals is required for the class to run. The YMCA will contact you if there are any cancellations in classes.

We are excited to offer a swim lesson program that emphasizes safety in, on, and around the water. Our team is committed to offering high-quality swim lessons that are backed by science! Many of our instructors are now certified by the American Red Cross as Water Safety Instructors. This allows us to provide you with superb, science-based learning for students of all ages and abilities!

Learning to swim takes time and practice. That’s why we hold swim lessons year-round and design them to be taken multiple times – so the swimmer can master each skill set we teach. Plan to begin lessons months in advance. Learning through play in a safe environment fosters positive feelings that help students want to come back!

Goggles: We highly encourage using goggles that cover the eyes only. We discourage the use of masks that cover both the eyes and nose, as they impede work on breath control.

The Y offers a variety of aquatic programs/activities for our adult and older members to enjoy!

WATER AEROBICS

Group Exercises Classes (Free to Members)

Moving in the water is a fantastic low-impact option for those with back issues, and or joint pain. The majority of class time is in the shallow end where you stand in chest-deep water. Deep-water aerobics are an option for those comfortable going in water over their head with floatation.
